WHOLE GRAINS

Good Stuff For Your Dog:

Processed grains have many nutritional benefits stripped away to produce white, fluffy flour. Holts Pets wants to ensure those nutrients are kept in by using minimally processed grains such as oatmeal and ground flax seed. These whole grains provide insoluble and soluble fibre, important for the health of your dog's digestive system. Just think about how you feel if you haven't had enough fibre. Ouch! Whole grains also contain many vitamins and minerals including the vitamin B family (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, folic acid), vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper and selenium.

OATS - they have an additional health benefit called beta-glucan. Human research with this fibre has shown positive results for heart health, blood sugar responses (diabetes research) and enhancing the immune system.

FLAX - This nutritional powerhouse contains 70% polyunsaturated fatty acids known as omega-3 and omega-6, as well as a number of antioxidants, protein and fibre. Omega 3 can help in reducing skin irritation and arthritis. Dogs can get too much of a good thing though if over supplemented with pure omega-3 oil, therefore whole flax seed provides a good balanced dose. Flax oils will give your dog a shiny, healthy coat worthy of a thousand snuggles. And if that isn't enough reason to want flax in your treats, flax lignans, which are considered an antioxidant, are useful in blocking the action of cancer-causing substances in the body. What more could you want from one lowly seed?
